How to increase the Mdaemon connection timeout?

  • Hi,

When sending emails to some servers, the connection freezes after a minute and is interrupted by a timeout:

Is there a way to increase the Mdaemon connection timeout to more than 1 minute?

  • Setup / Server Settings / Servers & Delivery / Timeouts.  Change the setting for "SMTP and POP3 sessions time out after X minutes."  The default is 10 minutes.

  • Denny,

We are still learning our new forums.  I received a notification about you commenting on the topic, which included the first couple lines of your comment, but I don't see your entire comment. Perhaps you removed it?  At any rate, here is some more information that may be helpful to you.

If it were MDaemon timing out the connection it should have increased to 2 minutes.  That means the server you are sending to is timing out the connection.  If it is the receiving server, then adjusting the time out settings in MDaemon will not fix this.

Is MDaemon sending data during the 1 minute?

It appears from the log snippet provided that this is a message sitting in MDaemon's remote/retry queues and MDaemon is trying to send it out.  I can also see that very little data was transmitted out.

    Mon 2023-01-16 12:09:01.591: 04: SMTP session terminated (Bytes in/out: 5377/752)

752 bytes transmitted tells me either data is going very very slowly or not going at all. My first thought is that your connection is not up to the task or MDaemon is trying to send out too much mail at the same time.

Does this happen with all messages or just some?  Is it all messages to this domain?  What is the domain?

How many messages are in the remote queue?  How many messages are in the retry queue?

What is your max concurrent outbound SMTP sessions set to?  Setup / Server Settings / Servers & Delivery / Sessions.

Is the postmaster of the receiving server able to provide any infomration?  There may be helpful information in their inbound SMTP logs.
