I will have to look into it, though, it is unlikely that we would fix this in a post 19.5.5 build. I know that it works as I described in MD v20 Beta.
For the directory, in your AccountTemplates.dat file, is it listed using slashes, like in your message, or using proper backslashes ( ie. D:\Mails\ )
That MIGHT cause a problem.

but the directory d:/mails/ is defined in the NewAccountTemplate and the new Mailbox added via API (without definging the path in the XML)is created somwhere else...!
and this has worked before allready - as we dit not change our mgt software...
and the user which we use to comunicate to the api is the gobal admin
when i add a user from the gui or the remote-weg-gut it is created in the right directory..
if you want, you can have access to the server to see yourself
..
