Compatibility matrix?

Hi,

The "System Requirements" page (http://www.altn.com/Products/MDaemon-Email-Server-Windows/System-Requirements/) is too vague and could need updating for the following reasons:
1) the upper section talks about Windows 2016,
2) whereas the "system recommendations" section does not mention Windows 2016 at all,
3) these infos only ever seem to apply to the latest release of MDaemon,
4) the CPUs being referred to are about 10 years old...

Thanks.

Hello,  Thanks for the information, we are in the process of updating the system requirements for all of our products. Installing...

Is MDaemon supported running Windows Server 2016 Core (i.e. without GUI, Desktop Experience)?

The System Requirements page does not mention this distinction.

MDaemon is not designed to be ran on an Operating System without a UI but I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t run.

The installation and creation of the first account might be a bit of a pain but that could be made much easier by installing and configuring MDaemon on a server with a UI.  Then copy the MDaemon directory over to the machine without the UI and run the install server with no UI using the /s parameter.

If you’d rather not do that, then you’ll need to:

-Install MD on the machine with no UI using the /s parameter.

-Edit the MDaeon.ini file in the Mdaemon\app directory and update the 6xKey=  key in the [Registration] section with your MDaemon key. Save the file and restart MDaemon.

-Create the first account using an adduser.sem file. More info on the SEM file is below.

-Set the account as a global administrator. More information is below.

ADDUSER.SEM
This semaphore creates new accounts. It is used to force MDaemon to append new records to the end of the USERLIST.DAT file without causing a potentially time consuming complete rebuild of the user database. Each line in this file must be a complete account record of the form specified in the Account Management Functions section of the MDaemon API (see MD-API.html in MDaemon's \docs\API\ subfolder). Multiple new accounts can be specified – one account record per line. MDaemon will process the file one line at a time and add each new account. You can create ADDUSER.LCK to lock the file while you are updating it and MDaemon will not touch ADDUSER.SEM until ADDUSER.LCK is deleted. To see a sample ADDUSER.SEM file open ADDUSER.SMP in your APP directory with a text editor.

Edit the hiwater.mrk file in the user’s mailbox directory.  Find the WebAccess= key in the [Settings] section and change the 3rd character from N to Y.  It will look something like this.

[Settings]

WebAccess=YYYNNYNYNNNNNNYNYNNY

Save the file and then login to MDaemon Remote Administration as the user.
