It used to be possible to close the MDaemon GUI without shutting down the server, but the 21.5.2 version now shows a warning and shuts the mail server down. If you close the GUI and then click on the MDaemon icon to immediately restart the mail server it seems that the GUI restarts but the mail server does not.
This "update" does not appear in the release notes so I assume it's a bug?

Most likely this is occurring because MDaemon is running as an application, not as a service.  This has always been...

Thanks for your help, Everyone left the office so I was able to try the restarts ...
The system had been running fine since the last update was run in early February which I assumed had performed a restart but I wasn't watching it so I don't know just what happened.
When I told Windows to restart just now, it told me that the computer could not be restarted because MD was running - so I forced a restart and then I saw that the MDaemon Messaging service had started once the system rebooted, I doubled checked it by telling Windows to install the latest updates and the second reboot resulted in the service restarting too - so the problem is fixed.
I wonder if this was a result of the update reboot not being performed? I can't see an update log anywhere but everything is fine now - Thanks!

Its difficult to say how it happened.  There are a few ways that its possible, for example, double-clicking mdaemon.exe in the MDaemon\app directory will start MDaemon as an application, if the MDaemon service is not already running.
