Outlook unresponsive

Hello everyone

I have an odd problem with one of my users. Seemingly at random Outlook
starts Refreshing endlessly, gets sluggish,... It is working, but it's
pretty much unusable. Restarting MDaemon resolves the problem.

Tracked it for a while and here is what I was able to see. After
midnight maintenance run in accounts mailstore (inbox) appears
Messages.Mrk.lck (behavior not observed with any other user). After
date/time LCK file appears SrchData.Mrk & SrchIndx.Mrk are no longer
updated. Both Daily maintenance (All mail folders) and Real-Time
indexing are ON.
New incoming messages are stored normally.

After Messages.Mrk.lck is deleted Outlook response normalizes. As
Messages.Mrk.lck is locked by Mdaemon.exe, it can be deleted only with
some of the unlocker programs, in which case index files still don't
start updating. If MDaemon is stopped and LCK then deleted (it doesn't
disappear by itself) index files start updating normally, until midnight
when whole thing starts again.

MDaemon is 21.0.3, Connector 7.0.4, Outlook 2019, everything fully
updated. Affected users MSGs look normal, local cache is created
normally, mailbox is at 70% capacity, nothing suspicious (at glance) in
logs.

Any ideas, what could be causing this?

Regards

For anyone else following this  thread, I have provided an updated dll that should address the issue.

If you are having a similar issue, please let us know.

Thanks for the logs, can you make sure the log level is set to debug for the Indexing service?

Setup / Message Indexing / Diagnostics, select Debug from the drop-down.

If it was not already set to debug, wait for the issue to occur again and send me an updated MdMbSrch log file.

Also, I noticed a number of errors accessing files because they are in use.  Do you have anything else running that would be accessing the files in user mailboxes?  Maybe a backup, AV Scanning, File Sync tools, etc?

What OS is MDaemon running on?

The LCK files "should" be getting creating with the delete on close flag enabled, so when the file is closed it should be automatically removed by the OS. The log shows the indexing for the user in question was completed at 12:24 AM. If in this case the LCK file still existed on disk at 9:20AM, either the delete on close didn't work, it wasn't actually set, or the file is still open.

Can you turn on the nightly maintenance for the indexing again and wait for the issue to happen.  When it does happen there are a couple of things I'd like you to do before fixing it.

1. Open Process explorer and search for "Messages.mrk.lck"  This should show us if any processes have the file open.  Please send me all the items that are returned from the search.

2. capture 3 memory dumps of the MDaemon.exe prcoess (Close the MD UI so you can be sure to get the right process), each 1 minute apart.  Then zip the dump files and upload them to our FTP server.
