Due to recommended execution restriction for .exe in %localappdata% and %appdata% folders and sub folders Mdaemon is unable to execute the downloaded file yet the installer does not fail due to this restriction. This will trigger an 866 event in event viewer.

==example message from event viewer==========
Access to C:/Users/[USER]/AppData/Local/Temp/SecurityPlusforMDaemon_tmp.exe has been restricted by your Administrator by location with policy rule {[GroupPolicyNumber]} placed on path C:/Users/[USER]/AppData/Local/*/*.exe.

==============================================

White listing that file name is not a solution as it opens up an avenue for malware.

Is there a way to have MDaemon and its other plugins to use an alternate path via configurations?

currently the only solution we have is to download the file and move it manually would be better if the installer were to do this by itself.

We are using the GetTempPath function checks for the existence of environment variables in the following order and uses the first path found:

The path specified by the TMP environment variable.

The path specified by the TEMP environment variable.

The path specified by the USERPROFILE environment variable.

The Windows directory."

You can change the value of the environment variables, but that won’t help as the policy will just block the new path.

For now, the only way around it is to manually the file to another location or manually download and install updates.
