HI there,

need help please.

sometimes mdaemon acts strange, 1 email can be sent out repeatly from the system.
example:
user send an email to a@domain.com, b@mydomain.com, c@thedomain.com.
then this email can be sent out more than ones to each of them.

need help why this can happen. and need solution. thanks.

What do the SMTP out logs show when the message is delivered?

I would expect that the connection is failing between the time MDaemon
has finished transmitting the message and before it gets back the
response that the message was accepted by the remote host. The remote
host may be sending its response to the closing(-ed) socket and pass the
message to the recipient. You'll have the check the logs to verify
this. Hopefully the logs will have some indication of the problem. If
you need help, post up the log for one of the repeated message
transmissions that failed (from MDaemon's perspective).

The SMTP Out log for the transaction where message delivery failed and
the message was received multiple times by the destination.

To find it, I would suggest locating the various copies of a message
that was delivered several times. Grab the Received headers from the
messages which will show the timestamp when MDaemon processed the
message. Something like:

Received: from yourMDaemon (yourdnsname [1.2.3.4])
        by remoteserver (remotednsname [4.3.2.1])
        (theirserverinfo)
        with ESMTPS id abc123 for <personwhogotmulitplecopies@remoteserver>;
        Thu, 25 Sep 2014 16:48:29 -0500

That date string at the end will show when MDaemon sent the message,
watch for timezone offsets. Now look in the MDaemon SMTP Out log and
find those send transactions. Ignoring all the extra information you
should have a transaction like:

<-- 220 RemoteServer
--> EHLO MDaemonServer
<-- 250 OK
--> MAIL FROM: <someone@yourdomain>
<-- 250 OK
--> RCPT TO: <personwhogotmulitplecopies@remoteserver>
<-- 250 OK
--> DATA
<-- 354 Send Message
<-- 250 OK

I would expect things would go wrong after the 354 and before the last 250.

What do the logs show?

Hi, After I checked,

there are 4 entries which said successful for that recipient, even though the sender only sent once. therefore the recipient got 4 same messages.

And, is it normal if there is a case like this:
sender@mydomain.com sent 1 email to 2 recipients on @domain_a.com and 2 recipients on @mydomain.com (total 4 recipients), at one time.
I looked into smtp (out) log,
smtp session for 2 recipients @domain_a.com combined into 1 session only.
But, on @mydomain.com, each recipient has its own smtp session.
is that normal?

thank you
